It was cold and rainy in Bowling Green, Missouri, on October 31, but that didn’t stop the Shamrocks from winning districts for the second straight year. Both the boys and girls teams placed first overall, advancing each team to the State Cross Country Meet in Jefferson City. Freshman Julia McIntyre also earned her own individual first place medal, becoming the Class 1 Girls District 2 champion.
McIntyre had a gutsy performance with a time of 20:53, winning by over a minute to second place Chamois senior Autumn Baker.
McIntyre, followed by junior Lucy Roth (7th, 23:49), junior Emily Lewis (8th, 24:17), senior Clare Roth (9th, 24:33), freshman Audrey Ford (18th, 26:31) and sophomore Natalie Hoerstkamp (20th, 26:57), led the team to a first place finish with a total of 23 points.
The boys won with a team finish of 22 points. Led by sophomore Nathan Ford (2nd, 17:58), the Shamrocks ran as a pack, with the top five finishing in the top 8. Freshman Joseph Rethemeyer came in after Ford (3rd, 18:31), followed by freshman Tim Madden (4th, 18:48), sophomore Ryan Blankenship (6th, 18:54), senior Keven McDowell (7th, 18:56), senior Jon Stone (8th, 19:01) and freshman Martin Lewis (14th, 19:27).
Great job, Shamrocks.
