The January Student of the Month is Senior Kayla Borcherding. Kayla is the daughter of Heather Vedder and Jeff Borcherding. She is active in volleyball, basketball, track, FBLA, FCA, is the NHS vice-president, senior class vice-president, and the student council vice-president.
One of her teachers said, “Kayla has a fantastic attitude in class. Even if an assignment isn't particularly enjoyable for her, she always gives a great effort. She will work and rework something until it is her best. She never gives up.” These attributes recently helped Kayla be named to the MHSVCA Academic All-State Volleyball Team. Requirements were earning a 3.6 cumulative GPA and playing in 75% of the total games played.
Another teacher commented, “Kayla always comes to class with a positive attitude and ready to work. She never complains, is very engaging with other students, and is happy to work with anyone she is partnered with in class. As vice president of National Honor Society and the senior class, she is responsible, hard-working, and willingly carries out any task asked of her. She is not an overly outspoken leader, but she leads by setting a good example for other students through her actions.”
In the future, Kayla plans to attend East Central College for two years before transferring to the University of Missouri-Columbia to finish her degree in business.
