It may or may not be surprising to you, but Converse have been around since 1917! By the 1980s, the shoes became a fashion statement and were available in dozens of colors. However, the fad eventually died out. Not surprisingly, by 2001, Converse became popular once again. Today, Converse is one of the most popular brands in the world.

Even in small towns such as New Haven, Converse are popular. 76% of the students at New Haven High wear Converse or would wear them if they owned a pair. 30% said that Converse were their favorite type of shoes to wear.
LeeAnna Linton, junior at New Haven High School, would agree that Converse are good shoes to wear. According to LeeAnna, “I put more time into picking out my shoes then my outfit.” She believes that Converse are “just so classy and cool!”
Kalli Stubblefield, sophomore at New Haven High School, also agrees with LeeAnna. Kalli says, “I absolutely love Converse shoes! I love how they go with practically any style of clothing. I also like how both girls and boys wear them.”
According to her, “Converse have repeatedly come back in style, because they go with anything you wear, and they're just fun shoes in general. They look like no other shoe on the market, which adds to their popularity.”
However, not everyone would agree that Converse are good shoes to wear. 24% of New Haven High School students reported that they would not wear Converse, even if they owned a pair.
Caleb Thomas, Graduate of Washington High School, has reported, “I don’t understand why Converse are so popular.” He said, “I prefer something that is comfortable and convenient, rather than stylish.”
If wearing the most popular shoe around is important to you, many people would recommend buying a pair of Converse! If you are more into comfort, and you do not enjoy the way Converse feel on your feet, then you may want to look into buying something else.
