On August 3rd, 2015, the New Haven High School Softball team had their first practice. This year’s team brought fourteen girls onto the field. The team players this year are: Brooke Bockting, Abby Perdue, Stephanie Russo, Alison Long, Nicki Zeitzmann, Kendall Frick, LeeAnna Linton, Liz Hughes, Emily Scheer, Sarah McKernan, Olivia Williams, Julia Unnerstall, Claire Laune, and Kamryn Poe.

Starting the season, it became realized that nobody on this year’s team has played more than one year of high school softball. Despite this fact, the team is looking forward to a successful season. Freshman Kamryn Poe said, “I’m looking forward to enjoying a great year with our team. I believe we will do well considering the number of athletes we have and I think we are going to surprise our fans with how well we do.”
As the practice season is progressing, many girls are playing new positions that they have never considered trying. Junior Nicki Zeitzmann stated, “I’m looking forward to trying out a new position in softball and although we are an inexperienced team, I think we will do fairly well this season.” Junior Alison Long also pronounced, “I’m looking forward to spending time with the girls on the team and making memories while playing the sport I love.”
The New Haven Softball Team’s first game,the New Haven Classic, was originally scheduled for Saturday, August 22nd, but it was cancelled due to rainy weather. Instead, the team’s first game was on Monday, August 24th against the Cuba Wildcats at Lions Field in New Haven.
