This year, the New Haven Marching Band season is in progress once again. This organization is a part of our school’s tradition of excellence, and it is a great responsibility and honor to perform in the marching band. The marching band is made up of instruments, flags, and poms and each student puts forth their greatest effort to ensure the performance is ideal. “The students in the band are some of the hardest working students in the high school. I am impressed everyday at the effort they are putting forth this marching season,” band teacher, Mrs. Koch, states about the efforts of the students involved in the marching band.
This marching year, the band will perform the song by the Beach Boys called “I Get Around”. The song has a catchy tune that will stir a crowd, enhancing areas of the band in which certain sections stand out and show their talents. Even the flags and poms will have a chance to show off their abilities and dazzle the crowd. Their choreography with the music has a unique twist. Kelly states, “The auxiliary is doing well this year. Many members have improved in their marching skills throughout the past few weeks. The flags are even going to try some tosses this year so I hope things continue to go smoothly!”
The New Haven Marching Shamrocks practice every morning, preparing for the first event, which is the preview parade on Friday, September 18 at 5 pm. One week later, the band will perform in their opening competition for the season. With each practice, the goal is to show improvements from last year. Hannah White, a flute player in the band states, “I think the strongest part of the band right now is how much we are working more on the music but I still think that we could improve on that music playing a little.” The marching band did very well last year, scoring captions in marching and auxiliary. The goal this year is to be even better than last.
