A number of ladies tried out for the squad -- ages ranging from freshmen all the way up to seniors--and even a couple foreign exchange students. As a rule, there can only be twelve cheerleaders on the squad each year; however, this limitation does not cap the interest there is to get a spot on the varsity cheer squad.
More interest convinced Mrs. Englebrecht and Mrs. Munsinger to have another set of tryouts on Friday, September 5th from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
This opportunity gave those ladies who were not able to make it to the first tryout a second chance to jump in and be a part of the Shamrock tradition.
The 2014-2015 Varsity Shamrock Cheerleaders are as follows: returning seniors Karissa Durbin and Jenny Gallardo, juniors Jenny Alvarez and Stephanie Russo, and sophomore Emily Lewis. The new cheerleaders are senior Luna Tomasi; juniors Sharon Brewster, Nele Granse and Emily Moreno; sophomores Alexia Nixon and Zoie Mathis.
Sharon Brewster and Alexia Nixon, who are both new cheerleaders this year, said they were ecstatic for the upcoming cheer season.
Sharon commented, “I think it’s a great way to meet new people and make new friends!”
Jenny Gallardo, returning senior, commented, “I just love cheerleading all around! I love the experience and the adrenaline when our team is winning, and I love cheering for our school.”
Karissa Durbin, also a returning senior, commented, “These ladies that I cheer with aren’t just my fellow cheerleaders, we’re all a family. I can’t wait for this season to get started even though it’s my last one.”
Congratulations ladies! Let’s keep our Shamrock tradition going! -by Karissa Durbin
