This year was the first time eighth-grader Andi Wideman played middle school basketball. “ It was a lot of fun, and I wish I would have played last year,” remarked Andi.
Andi was not the only new addition to the team, aside from the incoming seventh graders. This year, New Haven alumni Johnny Viehland took over the role of head coach of the middle school girls team. “ My girls wanted to get better everyday and gave me 110%. If I could have recorded the first practice ‘till the last, you could see how much they improved. That there made the season a success. Being a young coach, that was my first true team, and it will probably be my favorite as well,” remarked Coach Viehland.
Overall, the team experienced many memories that they said will last them a lifetime. Some of these memories include dancing to the “Wobble” at the end of practice with Coach, him bringing them pizza before games, and their walks to Subway with Coach V. trailing along.
The girls can be seen in the weight room preparing for next year already. A big thanks to Coach Viehland for stepping up to the challenge of coaching nine young girls, and a thanks to the ladies for all their hard work during the season.
