5 Seconds of Summer, a band from Sydney, Australia, were on their last leg of the US tour. On August 19, they stopped in Maryland Heights, MO, and performed with their openers, Roy English and Hey Violet, at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre. There were lines filled with screaming fans backed up for hours.
As everyone filed into their seats, “21 Guns” by Green Day was blaring over the speakers, and you could feel the crowd getting hyped up. As the house lights dimmed, you heard a roar erupt from the crowd that, just a few moments earlier, had died down once the openers had gotten off the stage. As the name that made everybody scream flashed across the screen, out came the band 5 Seconds of Summer onto the stage.
As they played one of their hits, “Waste The Night”, you could turn around and, for as far as you could see, everyone was holding lit-up phones and signs that said “STL Loves You”.
“They put on a truly entertaining show, ” said one mom. “I came with my daughter and found myself enjoying them and dancing.”
The four-piece Australian band had never done a show in Missouri before, and the reaction they got from the crowd clearly showed that it was long overdue.
