New Haven Chamber Of Commerce Sponsors Annual Yard Sales

4/29/2015

The Spring Fling City Wide Yard Sale, which takes place all around New Haven, was held on Saturday, April 18. Along with the yard sales, a barbecue sponsored by New Haven Chamber of Commerce took place in the Save-A-Lot parking lot.
Yard sales were scattered all throughout New Haven, from Miller Street to Boeuf Creek Road. New Haven residents were selling old belongings they no longer had any use for. Katrina Farris, employee at New Haven City Hall, was one of these people. She had a very successful sale, coming up with $156.35. “I had clothes that didn’t fit me anymore, knickknacks, and things that were just taking up space in my home. I sold an old cowboy hat to a little boy whose eyes lit up when he first saw it. An elderly woman bought a shirt for $.50 that would’ve been originally priced at $15.00. That’s what’s cool about yard sales. People are getting real benefits from the clutter in my basement.”

Bethany White, another yard sale -er, had a successful sale as well. “We inherited the home from my grandmother and planned on selling everything inside. We really didn’t have much use for the house or any contents in the house so our goal was to sell everything inside. We ended up selling the house!” She plans on having another yard sale again next year.

The BBQ also turned out to be a great success. The barbeque opened at 9am and continued until they ran out of meat. They served pork steaks, bratwursts, roasted corn, hamburgers, and hot dogs. Steve Roth, president of New Haven Chamber of Commerce, said, “There were people lining up at 10:00! We were all out a little after noon. So, this was a very successful project for us.” The money raised will be used in different projects the NH C of C will participate in throughout the year, including putting welcome signs along Highway 100 and possibly having a mural painted downtown.

“This occasion has been going on annually for eighteen years, and each year it gets better and better.” Steve Roth commented.

If you did not get a chance to get out and participate, stay tuned for information about next year’s event.
