Four years later, Ada Cross writes for the government newspaper, watches chick flicks with her sister Hannah, and lives in her own apartment. All her life, Ada’s neighbors have always been strange--that is, until Jorgen Ryker moved to town.
When Jorgen appears in Ada’s life, everything changes. Both Jorgen and Ada start spending more and more time together, including watching re-runs of Chopped and going to the county fair in Jorgen’s hometown. The more time they’re in each other’s presence, the more the love grows between Jorgen and Ada. But Ada is keeping something from Jorgen, a secret about her previous love, Andrew.
For those who love romance novels or know what it’s like to have a first high school love, this is an ideal story! Ada’s high school sweetheart love story is very relatable--how she over thinks and interacts with Jorgen describes how most do when they are in love.
One reason For All You Have Left is a great read is because of the relatability of the love story between Andrew and Logan, and then that of Jorgen and Ada. From the time they were 10 years old and all throughout high school, Andrew and Logan were always around each other; they were always either smiling, laughing, and having fun. Even when they were irritated with one another, their story still was very relatable.
On the other hand, Jorgen and Ada’s love is a little bit different than that of Andrew and Logan’s. Jorgen and Ada’s love relates to those that are just beginning to realize what it means to be on their own and to start a family. That’s why this book is so great--it relates to those who know what it’s like to finally be in love!
Another reason For All You Have Left is a great read is because of the life lesson it teaches: always find hope. For all you love-drunk, sappy-story readers, this is the book for you! While living on her own, Ada feels as if she’ll always be alone, that she won’t find someone again. With some help from her sister and a shocking confession, Ada finally realizes what hope has brought her.
For All You Have Left does have some drawbacks. The story line is typical, and some chapters get a little sleepy. There isn’t a whole lot of surprises or twists, which may turn off some readers.
Overall, even though the novel does have its drawbacks, For All You Have Left is a great read because of its relatable small town love, and its life lesson on finding hope. Go get this book today!
