JONES RECEIVES LEADERSHIP AWARD
Mr. Doug Peirick, Counselor, has announced that Chesni Jones, granddaughter of Lilburn Ray Hasty Jr., of New Haven, has been awarded the 2023 Hugh O'Brian Youth Foundation (HOBY) Leadership Award for New Haven High School. Last year approximately 9,000 high school sophomores--tomorrow';s leaders--participated in HOBY's Leadership Seminars in the United States. Chesni will be invited to the Missouri seminar to be held in the summer of 2024. This all expense paid state seminar will bring together a select group of high school sophomores with groups of distinguished leaders in business, government, education, and the professions to discuss present and future issues in America's incentive system and the democratic process. During the state seminar, two participants will be chosen to attend the HOBY World Leadership Congress to be held next July. All sophomores were eligible for nomination. Chesni was chosen by her teachers because of her leadership ability, strong decision making skills, and participation in service activities. Chesni is a member of student council and Future Teachers of America (FTA). She has been on the volleyball team, basketball team and was a member of the track and field team. Chesni is the president of the Class of 2026, and president of the FTA. She has been on the high honor roll both semester of high school and is the Student Council Historian. Chesni works approximately 16 hours a week outside of school and is active in several community service activities. Chesni plans to attend college after high school and major in Education. The New Haven Lions Club, as they have done for several years, is supporting the students at New Haven High School by covering the cost of the HOBY seminar. Jack Feldmann is the October Student of the Month for New Haven High School. He is the son of Jeni Nilges and Ryan Feldmann. Jack is involved in track, NHS, and FBLA. Jack has received the following awards:all district track, holds the New Haven javelin school record, attended the 2022-2023 state track meet, and attended the 2022-2023 state FBLA convention. Activities that he enjoys outside of school are going to the gym, cooking, fishing, hanging out with friends, and driving around. When he was little, people would call him "Laid Back Jack," because he never cried or got upset. He just went with the flow. Jack’s plans after high school are to attend college and work to be either a physical therapist/ sports medicine physical therapist or pursue a business major. His favorite thing about being a Shamrock is that he loves the feeling of being someone who everyone knows, and someone who doesn't stick in with everyone else. Jack loves when he walks into the middle school classrooms for teacher aid class, the middle schoolers are excited to see what cool socks he's wearing. He also loves the little conversations that he has with the teachers, whether it's just a "Good morning, how are you?" or a full conversation; he always enjoys it. It is the little things like that that make him the Shamrock he is. Congratulations, Jack!
