Jan. 25 kicked off the beginning of the 2022 Hermann Tournament for the Varsity boys. The Shamrocks made the short drive to Hermann multiple times throughout the week. The week started with the tournament looking tough for the Shamrocks, they were seeded 4th. Many of the boys were hoping to take the 1st place trophy home.
“I hope to win, but I also hope we get better as a team,” senior Logan Williams said.
"The first opponent the Shamrocks faced was the Montgomery County Wildcats. Montgomery has been a hard competitor for the Varsity boys the past couple of years. So far this year the boys have beat them once. It was a tough game with hard competition. When asked about the game, Sam Scheer let us know what he thought.
“It didn't go great, we held them to 30 points, but we still lost,” senior Sam Scheer said.
Unfortunately, the boys did not claim the win. They played a hard game and fell to MoCo 30-28. Their next opponent was the Wright City Wildcats who they played Thursday the 27. The boys were gearing up for the game prior to playing Wright City.
“We should hornswoggle them, because they are missing two key players,” senior Adam Hoemeyer said.
The boys game against Wright City determined whether they played for consolation o r 7th place. The boys were able to take a win against them earlier this season and hoped to do it again.
“It was alright, Sam dunked and it was really cool,” senior Charlie Roth said.
The Varsity boys ended up taking the W from the Wright City Boys. This advanced them to play for consolation. They played St. Clair on Saturday the 29. The boys were able to take the consolation place in the Hermann tournament over St. Clair. With the end of this tournament a lot of the senior boys are starting to realize their season is wrapping up.
“It is bittersweet, because it is my last tournament ever,” senior Adam Homeyer said. “I am going to miss Sam, because we have a different level of connection. Most people think that Sam and Charlie have a strong connection but when it comes down to the brass tax of it we have the strongest connection.”
