On Monday, April 30, the Shamrocks put up a good fight, but in the end came up short, falling to Cuba 4-3. The Shamrocks kept it close throughout the game, but the Wildcats always had an answer.
Facing the Cuba pitchers, senior Ryan Blankenship went 1 for 3 with a run batted in and a stolen base. Fellow senior Owen Buchheit also went 1 for 3 with a run batted in.
Senior Owen Buchheit commented, “I still continue to see improvement game-by-game. We kept it close, but we just came up short. We did get a couple of key bunts down, and made some other textbook plays. We just have to stay consistent and crank up the intensity.”
Buchheit got the start on the mound for the Shamrocks, throwing 5 ⅓ innings, giving up 3 hits, and striking out 5. Junior Christian Paterson threw 1 ⅔ innings, giving up 1 hit, while striking out 2.
Sophomore Jay Eichelberger stated, “We kept it close the whole way through. It definitely was a winnable game. We just have to make the easy plays and stay consistent throughout.”
While the Shamrocks’ final regular season games concluded, the Shamrocks will begin district play Saturday, May 12, in Louisiana against Crossroads. Good luck, boys!
