This morning we left the hotel around 7:45 and drove about ten minutes to Thomas Jefferson’s home, Monticello. From the top of the mountain you could look off into the horizon and see forty miles. This morning we left the hotel around 7:45 and drove about ten minutes to Thomas Jefferson’s home, Monticello. From the top of the mountain you could look off into the horizon and see forty miles. The view was breathtaking. We divided into two group and toured through his home where we saw his books, glasses, bedroom/office, and other
priceless artifacts. After touring the inside, we ventured outside where we walked through his flower gardens and gathered for a group picture in front of Jefferson’s home. We then traveled down the mountain and began our two hour drive into Washington D.C.. Once arriving in D.C. we went to the National Cathedral where we looked at the beautiful stained glass windows and admired the gothic architecture. We then traveled to the Washington Monument, which we got to go up in an elevator to the top--that was 500 feet up! After we came down, we walked through a section of the National Mall and Memorial Park visiting the World War I, World War 2, Martin Luther King Jr., Korean War, Vietnam War, and Lincoln Memorials. We then split into two groups for dinner. One group stepped out of their comfort zone and tried Merzi, which had Indian food, while the other group went to the Shake Shack and enjoyed the ever so classic burger, fries, and shake, To top off the night we walked up and down the streets of D.C. before heading to the hotel for the night.
