On Tuesday, September 4th, the members of the Publications class (Lexi Oetterer, Mikayla Maloney, Diana Ribera, Natalie Pecaut, and Dori McCarty) departed from New Haven High School at 7:15 A.M. and headed to Bayless High School for a yearbook workshop. This is the second year that the class has taken this field trip.
“I always enjoy this trip,” said Mrs. Katie Borcherding. “I learn things and so do the students, and I think it's a really good use of school time. Our Walsworth rep packs a lot into just a few hours. She covers ground way faster than I can in a day.”
At the workshop, the class did various activities to help us improve our yearbook, and learn how to do new things on InDesign, the program that is used to create the book.
The first thing the class did was go to the Auditorium for some fun games. Diana Ribera played musical chairs, Natalie Pecaut played Guess That Song, and Dori McCarty played Guess That Movie.
Diana Ribera said, “My favorite part of playing musical chairs was that the tension was starting to build as people lost one by one along with having to remove a chair one by one.”
The first class they went to was a class to teach all the parts of the camera used to take a good picture. Next, the class went to the mac lab at Bayless High School to learn different tools that can be used on InDesign. Then, the group went to lunch where they were provided pizza. The last thing that the class did was meet with a Walsworth representative who helped them get ideas for the cover of the yearbook.
“My favorite part of the day was watching Ray make our cover-- the outcome is really fitting for the theme of the yearbook,” said Mikayla Maloney.
