New Haven held its parade for the yearly balloon festival on Saturday, September 22nd. The emergency services came first, followed by the Marching Shamrocks, and after that, the floats. Candy and other goodies were handed out to the kids and people who watched the parade.
Those who attended from New Haven High were asked what they thought of the parade, and freshman Keegan Wiedemann answered, “It was great all together, especially when the marching band passed by.”
“At first I thought that it was short, but since the floats were spread out, it took a bit for the others to come. All together, I loved the parade. I thought it was cute, and it was pretty fun,” said senior Diana Ribera.
Senior Alexander Trentmann responded with, “It was cool out during the parade, so that made it even better. I liked all the candy that was thrown out and the floats that came out.”
The attendees were then questioned if they had any favorite memories or floats from the parade, and freshman Destiney Quick responded with, “Yes, most definitely! The People's Savings Bank Float for Veterans was my favorite because my grandpa, Bill Quick, was on it.”
Sophomore Ariana Ribera said, “I loved The Girls on the Run float. It was so cute seeing the little ones being a part of it and having so much fun.”
Ashlyn Beckmann, freshman, replied with, “It was nice marching and seeing everyone get excited as we passed.”
Those who participated in the marching band discussed how they performed and how it felt performing during the parade. Samuel Penning, junior, replied, “I was tired after it was all done, but I think we did okay all together.”
“It was a nice, cool day to march and not a blazing 90 degrees. We did better than we did at the preview parade, which I am proud of,” said sophomore Logan Senecal.
Freshman Barbara McDaris answered, “During the march, all I could think about was staying in line, keeping in step, and playing the music correctly. We played better, compared to the pre-parade.”
Well done to the Marching Shamrocks on their march and to those who participated in the parade. Congratulations to the People’s Savings Bank for its winning float entry as well!
