A+ students help teachers at the elementary school who need assistance. A Google form was sent out to a few A+ students and Mr. Doug Peirck asking them about how they feel going to the elementary to help out the students.
Mr. Doug Peirick was questioned what NHHS students do over at the elementary and he responded with, “Students tutor our younger students in areas that they need extra help in and also mentor good behavior and citizenship in the school. They do get a grade for the class and it is just one requirement that A+ students need to meet to receive the A+ Scholarship that helps pay for tuition at a community college or technical school.”
When asked which teacher they help and how they like working with kids, senior Addison Tolar commented, “I actually work in the office so I don't work with the kids but it is fun.”
Senior Jenna Haeffner stated, “I help Mrs. Anderson and I really like helping out the little kids.”
“I work in the office at the elementary and I don't work with students,” said senior Lydia Otten.
Everyone has a favorite memory. Here are some of their favorites with the students they work with.
Jenna Haeffner responded with, “My favorite memory is helping the kids and seeing them smile.”
“I haven't really made memories but I like seeing Mrs. Unnerstall sometimes because she was my favorite teacher [when I was in elementary school,]” said Addison Tolar.
They were later asked why they wanted to join A+ and if they want to continue a career in helping children.
“It is a fun class and can be very enriching,” said Addison Tolar.
“[I joined A+ because I wanted] to help the kids and be there for them,” replied Jenna Haeffner.
Lydia Otten commented by saying, “I want to be a teacher so it helps for my future career.”
Working with kids can be fun but exhausting at the same time. NHHS students take their time to help elementary teachers in exchange for extra credits. Keep up the good work, Shamrocks!
