The New Haven softball team has had one of their best seasons in recent years. Varsity softball coach Mr. Scheer has tied his record in conference wins this year with 4. The team also has a record of 7-9 which is the best record in recent years.
The team was asked what they feel their strengths are as a team, and what they could still improve on.
“As a team, we have a lot to improve on. Especially offensively. Defensively, other than a few games, I think that is our strength. We hustle and we keep our heads in the game. We don't ever give up. Even if we are losing by 12,” said Kamryn Poe.
Madison Langenberg commented, “We cheer each other on, but not enough. We should be working harder in practice.”
Julia Unnerstall replied with, “As a team, I feel like we do well defensively. We just need to work on our hitting.”
The players were then questioned on what they feel they have improved on throughout the season.
“I think my pitching has improved throughout the season,” said Madison Langenberg.
Kamryn Poe commented with, “Personally, I think my hitting has improved. Now that I specifically just hit, I had to make sure my batting average was high. I need a good stick so I worked hard to make sure I could hit people in.”
According to Julia Unnerstall, “I don't let as many ground balls and fly balls get past me.”
Last, the softball team was asked how they were able to contribute to their team's success up until this point in the season.
Kamryn Poe responded by saying, “For the first few games, I played first while we had an injured player so I helped that way. I also DH (designate hit) and I have got a few solid hits and quite a few RBIs (runs batted in) this season.”
Madison Langenberg added, “By being a good teammate and cheering on my team.”
Johnna Bloch responded by saying, “I am the varsity catcher, and I am always trying to encourage the team to not give up. If we're losing or winning.”
Good luck to the softball girls in future games. Keep up the hard work!
