On September 7, 2019, the New Haven Cross Country team ran their first meet of the new season on their home course. There were seventeen teams including New Haven at the meet. After all the races were finished and scores were entered, the teams received the results. The Varsity girls got 6th, and the Varsity boys got 7th. After the meet, the athletes were asked a few questions.
The first question asked was how they felt they ran at the first meet of the season. Senior Austin Tegeler simply said, “I feel I ran pretty [well].”
Junior Hannah Borcherding replied, “I feel like I ran a good race to start off the season.”
The next question asked was if the athletes have any goals for themselves this season. Junior Emma McIntyre answered, “I would like to improve my time this season.”
Junior Matthew Otten said, “I would like to be on Varsity this season.”
Austin Tegeler said, “I plan on going to state and being an all-state runner.”
They were then asked how they felt their team ran overall.
Freshman Andrew Rethemeyer explained, “I think the boys did [well]. Even though I ran on JV, I think we all did pretty [well].”
Junior Hannah Borcherding replied, “For the first meet, I think we did pretty [well] by getting a time to see where we are at.”
Junior Matthew Otten said, “I think the boys did pretty [well].”
The seniors were then asked how it felt racing one last time on their home course. Austin Tegeler replied, “It was a pretty sad but fun experience.”
The Shamrocks were assigned to be in Class 2 this season. Good luck, Shamrocks, with the start of your season!
