Mrs. Katie Borcherding, art teacher at New Haven High, was asked by the Chamber of Commerce to create a selfie station as one of the activities for people to do at the Miller’s Landing Day Memorial on Saturday, May 5th. For this project, Mrs. Borcherding, along with Abby Grater, decided to remake a scene from a historic New Haven photo of the Tilda Clara.
Mrs. Borcherding was asked why she was doing this project, and she replied, “I think it is important for the students to work with the community.”
Mrs. Borcherding, along with some of the students at New Haven High (including Abby Grater, Savanna Hanna, Lexy Sidwell, Cecelia Malone, and Christian Paterson), has been working for the past three weeks to create the photo booth. The Chamber of Commerce is picking up the finished project at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, May 4th.
Mrs. Borcherding was asked about how she felt about the finished project, and she said, “I like it. I think the design is really fun. It took us a long time to decide what to do, but the recreation of a historic New Haven photo I think was a really good idea.”
The students who helped work on the project were asked what they felt about the project as a whole.
Junior Christian Paterson replied, “It’s all right, and I think it’s cool.”
Junior Cecelia Malone said, “I like it a lot-- I think it's a very creative way to get people to recognize the memorial.”
