New Haven’s track is finally finished after all of the hard work the community put into it. As a whole, New Haven raised $368,000 for the track project. New Haven had their first Town Hall meeting on November 21st of 2013 and now, two years later, the track is completed. The high school’s principal, Mr. Hoener, stated that the new track is currently available for use by the community and that we hope to host our first track meet in 2017 or 2018.
For the next step, the committee is planning ways to fund-raise for the amenities that come with the track, such as lights, sidewalk, restrooms, and storage.
Junior, Damian Gale, showed excitement by saying, “The new track is a great thing for New Haven and I can't wait to run on it in the spring!” Fellow students, teachers, and community all have a positive outlook for future track users. Many people believe the track is a great surface for running and that the location of the track is convenient. A track that is close is cheaper for residents since they no longer have to drive out of town to use another track.
Mr. Hoener also said, “The new track will impact our community as a whole, our school, our track team. Other schools will just take our track for granted since they always had a track. It's very appreciated here.”
Best of luck to future track users and thank you to everyone who contributed to the donations for the New Haven Track Project!
