On Wednesday, October 2, the New Haven girls Cross Country team had an exciting meet. All of the girls medaled at St. James and placed first at the meet.
Frontrunners junior Emma McIntyre and sophomore Chloe Grater placed close to each other. Emma placed second with a time of 22:00, and Chloe placed third with a time of 22:23.
Junior Caroline Otten came in eighth with a time of 24:06, and sophomore Emily Delgado followed her, placing ninth with a time of 24:18. Senior Kayla Brumels ran in with a time of 24:49, placing eleventh.
Senior Grace Allgaier placed fourteenth with a time of 25:38, and Lauralie Grater followed, placing fifteenth with a finish of 25:43. Junior Hannah Borcherding finished the race for the Shamrocks, placing eighteenth with a time of 26:00.
After the meet the athletes were asked a few questions. The first question asked was how they felt they ran.
Junior Caroline Otten said, “I felt I ran pretty well. The weather was a little hot but we all properly warmed up and stayed in the shade before the race, which helped us all out.”
Junior Hannah Borcherding responded with, “The heat affected me a bit but I feel like I pushed myself and ran well.”
The next question was what their feelings were on all of the girls medaling.
Caroline Otten replied, “I was really excited and proud of all of us girls. It was so cool getting to experience every girl earning a medal and getting first as a team. I feel this will help put a mindset into our heads that if we work together more like this we can accomplish more as Districts get closer.”
Junior Emma McIntyre said, “It was so exciting to see all the girls medal and have our team get first!”
Congratulations, Shamrocks, on your first place finish!
