Gary and Crystal Carver, of New Haven, has been awarded the 2020 Hugh
O'Brian Youth Foundation (HOBY) Leadership Award for New Haven High
School.
(Tressa Carver is pictured here with Lion's club members, Ryan Winters and John Berger.)
Last year approximately 9,000 high school sophomores participated in HOBY's Leadership Seminars in the United States.
Tressa will be invited to the Missouri virtual seminar to be held in the summer of 2021.
This all expense paid state seminar will bring together a select group of high
school sophomores with groups of distinguished leaders in business,
government, education, and the professions to discuss present and future
issues in America's incentive system and the democratic process. During the
state seminar, two participants will be chosen to attend the HOBY World
Leadership Congress to be held next July.
All sophomores were eligible for nomination. Tressa was chosen by her
teachers because of her leadership ability, strong decision making skills, and
participation in service activities.
Tressa is active in basketball, volleyball, track and field, FCCLA, and Student
Council. Tressa placed 2nd in an All Abilities Essay Contest, plays soccer
outside of school on a select team, and helps at a local church bible school.
The New Haven Lions Club, as they have done for several years, is
supporting the students at New Haven High School by covering the cost of
the HOBY seminar.
